As I was walking in my yard I noticed that the ground is covered with leaves. It's July on the East Coast so this is making absolutely no sense. The temperature in the last 3 days or so has been in the 100's. So, how is it that in the middle of this heatwave, brown leaves are falling from the trees and covering the ground as if it was Autumn?
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, 'There is a time for everything, and a season for everything under the heavens.' No where in that scripture does it say that WE can control the seasons. Because we cannot! Timing and seasons belong to God.
We don't always get what we expect! For instance, we expect to get the same French Fries at every McDonalds that we go to. But the reality is, depending on which one you pull up to, you might get cold fries or hot fries. You might get so many that there are extra in the bottom of the bag or the cup may not be full at all. We don't expect fluctuations and change. If it were up to us, the good times that we experience would be on repeat 365 days, 24 hours. But the reality is, just like seasons change, our lives will have some unexpected turns and twists.
The image shown in this writing depicts how our lives sometimes looks completely out of balance. How can there be such beauty on one side of the mountain and snow filled peaks ahead of us? It's almost as if we can walk on the edge of beauty and the cold world is just one pinky toe away.
Just know this, seasons change and just like the leaves falling off of the trees in mid summer, sometimes the change happens very quickly. If you can pray your way through the stormy seasons, trust me, the sun will shine on you again. Learn to enjoy each season. Hold on to the good times and get support when times are difficult.
As the lyrics to the song says,
Build your hopes on things eternal.
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Be Blessed and Stay Encouraged!
